Description

Class Experience

Students will learn to write informatively, creatively, and argumentatively.

Students will learn to create a thesis, conduct research, and support their thesis in writing.

Students will gain independence in their learning through a self-led final project.
I am a licensed K-12 intervention specialist with my Master's Degree in Education and Special Education. I spent three years working in the public school setting and providing interventions in writing, reading, math, and life skills. I taught 7th grade writing for two years in an inclusion setting.
Students will be expected to complete regular homework, including:
- Watching video mini-lessons when they are posted (5-10 minutes each)
- Completing writing assignments not completed in class (30-60 minutes)
- Sharing feedback through Nearpod when assigned (5-10 minutes).

Students can expect to put 1-2 hours of work in each week outside of class.
Students will need something to write with - I prefer Google Drive/Google Docs for easy sharing and editing, but Microsoft Word works, as well.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
  • Google Drive
Students will receive feedback on all assignments they turn in, and assignments will be graded according to a rubric.

*This class is meant to help students develop academic independence. Students must take ownership of their learning by turning in all assignments they'd like feedback on.
1 hour 20 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Students are expected to complete work on time and submit it. I do accept late submissions (within reason) and always provide thorough and constructive feedback on assignments that are turned in. If a student does not hand in their assignments, I will not be able to provide feedback.

About Me

My greatest gift is the ability to explain things in a way that "clicks." Because of that, I teach a wide range of subjects that all share two common themes: (1) they are important skills that children can use throughout their lives, and (2) they...
