Description Class Experience In this class, we will learn to write and/or enhance our writing skills using the 6+ traits of writing. These traits include Ideas (what should I write about + details), Voice (making my writing sound like me), Sentence Fluency (the flow of my writing), Word Choice (enhanced words in my writing), Organization (how to structure my writing), Conventions (the grammar and spelling component), and Presentation (using art to present my writing). This is researched-based teaching of writing that I have been trained in, and have used with great success in the past. I will also be sharing children's literature (with permission from the publishers). This literature includes books that have been suggested as books that represent the traits. I will also use books (with permission) written by authors and illustrators that I have had the privilege of hearing speak about their writing process. The topics above will be taught via Zoom and by demonstration, sharing, peer interaction, and individual conferencing. The students will create and maintain a writer's notebook, which will include many helpful tips and tricks, that will aid in English and writing for the rest of their school career. Students will be assessed using the rubrics of the 6+ Trait method is they wish (optional). Students will also have time to write during class time and will be encouraged to read their writing out loud. There is no previous knowledge required. Students may join at any time. Weekly Schedule: Week 1 The Trait of Ideas Week 2 The Trait of Conventions - organizing Week 3: The Trait of Word Choice Week 4 The Trait of Sentence Fluency Week 5: The Trait of Voice Week 6:The Trait of Conventions - grammar, spelling, and punctuation Students will improve their writing skills using the 6+ Traits of Writing, which includes: Ideas, Voice, Organization, Sentence Fluency, Conventions, Word Choice, and Presentation. Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello!!. My name is Mrs. Beth Lanthier.
I taught elementary school (grades 2-8) for twenty years. My Master's Degree is in Reading and Language Arts - and that is my passion. My favorite moments are when kids who don't like to write, begin to love it!
In the fall, I teach reading, writing, grammar, and College Success Skills to college students
Teaching is my passion, and my philosophy is that the influence of a good teacher can never be erased. I hear back from former students about how I impacted their lives and how they are passing that on to their children.
I will offer classes in reading, writing, English, journaling, and bullet journaling. If you look at my available classes, I offer a lot of book clubs also.
I look forward to passing on my enthusiasm and knowledge to each and every student.
