This ongoing collaborative writing class will stop your child from running into the brick wall that is "writer's block." Students will learn valuable sentence-building skills that will give them confidence to face any writing assignment.

Class experience

US Grade 6 - 8
This class is taught in English.
Each week, students will learn about a specific sentence-building tool through a structured lesson and collaborative practice session. Learner will then be provided with the opportunity to practice apply the sentence-building tool by completing independent sentence writing practice. This goal of this independent writing practice during the session is to build writing stamina through repeated short-term writing tasks and help students build executive functioning skills (mental processes that let us plan, focus attention, and think critically). Opportunities will also be built in to allow students to exercise their skills on any homework or schoolwork they might be working on that week.
I have over a decade of teaching experience in a variety of settings and at various grade levels. I have taught various grades, but most of my experience comes from teaching 6th and 7th grade English.

Formal Education:
Associate's Degree in Education
Bachelors of Science in Education
Master of Edu. in Literacy
Homework Offered
There is no assigned homework for this class. However, students are encourage to apply strategies/skills they learn through our sessions to any and all writing tasks completed at school or at home. Additionally, as part of the independent writing practice during our session, each student will receive multiple slides in their personal Google Slides workbook that can be completed as extra practice work throughout the week if they do not complete them all during our allotted class time.
Assessments Offered
Learner progress is assessed as I review each writer's completed sentences. During the independent writing practice portion of the class, I will be reviewing each student's progress and offering verbal feedback. I will also often provide written comments or recorded audio feedback (as necessary) on each student's Google Slides workbook to provide them with specific feedback or advice for improvement.
Grades Offered
This course relies heavily on technology use as each learner will receive a personal Google Slides workbook to be used throughout the duration of their enrollment. Please, if at all possible, provide your learner with a laptop or desktop computer, rather than a tablet. If it is not possible for your learner to type during the session, they may hand write their work and then type it into their personal Google Slides workbook after the session ends.
