In this class we will meet 4 times to plan our writing with all four genres in an essay format. I model with organizers, exemplary authors, and think alouds. I guide students with their plan for each piece of writing (informative, persuasive, opinion, and narrative).
Class Experience
US Grade 2 - 5
Each class will focus on one genre. We will analyze books that offer great writing skills that fit each genre. I will use the various teaching strategies that I have developed over the sixteen years of teaching guided writing. Here is an overview of each lesson as well as what genre will be taught each day. LESSON FORMAT -introduce and define the components of the focus genre for the class (informative, persuasive, opinion, narrative) -use exemplary author's books to identify exceptional...
-Students will know the criteria for each genre -Students will see how author's use exemplary writing to write each genre -Students will become familiar with the structure of each genre based on guided writing and organizers -Students will construct their own writing plan for each genre using organizers
-16 years of certified teaching guided writing lessons in grades 2-6th grade
Since students may not complete their writing piece after our 40 minute class, they may complete their writing independently and show me at the next class.
*Printed copy of the organizer that I will post into the classroom prior to class. Students will use this to complete their own writing plan. *pencil :o)
1 hour 20 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
I will upload the organizer into the classroom before the class so students will be able to print out a copy prior to class
