Class Experience

This ongoing course will support you in the writing process for a variety of occasions. The content revolves around components of good essay and story writing. Each session will have an area of focus that builds a solid understanding of writing components. Students will have the freedom to work on independent projects while also learning a tidbit in each session. The course does not build so students may enter and exit the course as needed. The instructor will support each student in independent writing situations such as scholarship applications, school essays, and writing contests. One meeting time will be used for new material and content focus. The second class will be used for group conversation, writing problem discussions, and debriefing the week. April and May will focus research and expository writing.

Learning Goals

Students will gain confidence in expressing thoughts in writing. Students will know the difference in a complete sentence and an incomplete thought. Students will be able to write a cohesive sentence, paragraph, and essay. The learner will have the confidence to write when presented with a variety of occasions, including standardized tests.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I currently teach 9th grade ELA, and it is my 12th year to teach public high school English. Writing is an area where students feel very self-conscious and confused much of the time. Classroom teachers only have so much time in the day to address writing and writing improvement. I'm thrilled to offer ongoing support to students who need confidence as writers.
