Class Experience

In this 13-week, small group class, writers will practice writing skills that are required in many real-life scenarios.

We will improve our writing through discussion, feedback, and hands-on experience. Students should have a general idea of how to structure a sentence and a paragraph to be successful in this class as these topics will not be covered extensively.

Students will increase their confidence in both themselves and their writing abilities by having group discussions as well as individualized feedback from myself, all while learning important skills that will be useful in their lives. My goal is that by the end of the class students will have a new outlook on the importance of writing, but also a new-found confidence in their abilities. I am happy to provide accommodations for students who need them (documented or not), because I want to help each learner to be successful in my class.

Please see the outline below for details about what we will work on.

Week 1: Introductions, getting to know you, "I AM" writing pieces
Week 2: Writing an email
Week 3: Writing a formal letter
Week 4: Resumes - Week 1
Week 5: Resumes - Week 2
Week 6: Cover Letters
Week 7: Filling out an application
Week 8: Writing a letter of intent/interest (for applications)
Week 9: Writing an application essay (colleges/camps/etc...)
Week 10: Writing an application essay (colleges/camps/etc...)
Week 11: Taking notes
Week 12: Doing research - identifying reliable sources
Week 13: Doing research - avoiding plagiarism

All of our editing and feedback will be encouraging, respectful, and productive. Everyone will have (and is encouraged to have) different ideas and opinions. All perspectives will be honored and accepted.

I feel that children should be encouraged to follow their passions. Children need to know that they can have what they want for their lives if they have the correct tools and motivation to get there. I hope to help build confidence in my students and to give them some of those tools. I also believe that not every child learns the same way. Education is not a one-size-fits-all experience. I look forward to helping your child learn how they learn.

While I offer an extensive collection of class content choices, my specialty is meeting students where they’re at and making the course material accessible to all students, regardless of the topic. I love to be silly with my students and encourage interaction in all of my classes. I want learners to feel at ease and safe to be themselves in my classroom. My small class sizes and relaxed, encouraging teaching style allow me to tailor my classes to each student’s needs and learning style, resulting in learners walking away from class confident and smiling.

*If you don't see a time listed that works for you, please reach out. I am happy to add classes to accommodate students' schedules whenever I can. Thank you!*

Bachelor's Degree from Southern New Hampshire University
I am a homeschooling mom of five kids, ranging in age from eleven to twenty. We are diving into our 7th year of homeschool and we love it. I have a passion for both education and creativity and I love combining the two whenever I can. When I'm not teaching (my kids or someone else's), I run a business based purely on creativity and art.

Traveling (and 8 years of formal classes) gave me a handle on the Spanish language. I have a background in general education from 19 years of combined experience teaching in public and charter school settings, as well as tutoring one on one, ESL, and running various camps and activities. My experience ranges from childcare (infant) age all the way through high school age and includes work with neurodiverse and special needs students, as well as students with mental health issues.

I have a passion for, and educational background in Graphic Art/Design, however, my degrees are AA in Liberal Studies and a BA in General Studies with a concentration in Psychology. I am also TESOL certified.
