I have been tutoring students ages 5 through 14 for five years full-time. I also run a STEM Days program for students ages 3 through 13. One of my focus areas is literacy standards that help students write well in a fun and engaging manner. Another focus area is numeracy and helping students apply mathematical concepts to real-world situations, like science! I have experience working with students needing special attention, including but not limited to English Language Learners and students diagnosed with ADHD and autism. I have worked as a tutor inside middle school classrooms providing one-on-one and small group support. I have also facilitated a youth leadership training class for a group of middle school youth leaders.
Assessments OfferedStudents will be assessed periodically to determine mastery, where 80% is considered mastery. Formative and summative assessments will be used throughout the class.
Students should have a pencil and paper available for use during class.
Dear Parents and Guardians, The best way to prepare for this class is to help young people create a learning environment that is free of distractions. The learning space should include a desk and chair, and students should have a pencil and paper available for use during class. A notebook is best. It is recommended that young people remain disengaged from cell phones during tutoring sessions. We may use online platforms like nearpod. If so, a subscription to the software platform is not needed. Instead, a link will be shared so that your child can submit their response electronically. Nearpod is used to increase engagement in a fun manner. I look forward to working with your young person(s)! -Maria J.
