Writing Elaboration Wizardry - Creative (Narrative) Writing
In this 4 week course, students will write a short narrative story from their own imagination. Then, like magic, we will add several elaboration techniques to their writing to make their story sparkle!

In this course we will work on writing a story from start to finish and adding our own thinking to improve the amount of details in their writing. We will meet twice a week, and it will be very interactive. I am a positive, growth-mindset oriented instructor that loves to help guide students to those "light bulb moments".

Students will learn how to plan a narrative essay.Students will learn how to consider and add character traits.
Syllabus
8 Lessons
over 4 WeeksLesson 1:
Intro and brainstorm
Students will get an introduction to me and my course as well as each other. We will also begin brainstorming for their short story. 30 mins online live lesson
Lesson 2:
Brainstorm
We will continue planning their stories and completing the planning sheet. 30 mins online live lesson
Lesson 3:
Think Like a Poet/Picture This
Students will learn these elaboration strategies and some sentence frames to help them add to their story. 30 mins online live lesson
Lesson 4:
Character traits
We will learn about inside and outside character traits and add more detail to our story's characters. 30 mins online live lesson

Supply List
Students will be provided a planning sheet handout to fill out, and will need to be able to write or type their stories.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
