Hello! In this class students will learn how to take good notes from any source. They will also learn what paraphrasing means and how to do it the right way to avoid plagiarism. Finally, students will learn how to write an effective summary that focuses on the main points and avoids the unnecessary details. Students will learn how to take notes and write effective summaries.
Optional Homework: I will give students short nonfiction reading assignment to summarize or take notes on. We will use the National Geographic Kids site for these assignments. Students can turn in their homework to me via classroom post, private message, or Google doc link. I will provide clear constructive feedback for all the homework I receive.
Students should bring paper and a pencil to each class. I will also provide some printable graphic organizers that the students will need to bring to class during weeks two and three.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
