Assignments
1-2 hours per week. I plan to give assignments and tips and exercises to help your learner with whatever skill they need developed most. This is highly flexible depending on the learner and our goals for their level and type of writing, but students can expect to be working on assignments outside of class each week.Progress Report
I am happy to provide letter grades as requested in addition to progress reports.Class Experience
US Grade 5 - 8
In this highly tailored, one-on-one class, students will the foundations of writing, developing their most basic skills and then building on those to more advanced, nuanced work. Whether a student is having a hard time getting sentences on the page or is more comfortable with words but needs to learn how to formulate an essay or craft a great short story, we will get them up to speed. This class will cover beginning through intermediate and some advanced writing topics, such as: 1) Paragraph writing and organization 2) Essay writing 3) Voice and style 4) Persuasive writing 5) Creative writing topics Targeted at students who are at the more beginning through upper intermediate or lower advanced levels in writing, this class will hit the basics and then go beyond that for an enriching experience for older elementary students up through high schoolers. It will follow Common Core standards and can function as a student's core English class. My teaching style is comfortable, individualized, super interactive, and highly engaging--I've been called Ms. Frizzle more than once (and not just because of the crazy hair and bright-colored glasses). Words have been my life, and I want nothing more than to help words enhance the life of your student in whatever capacity that may be. Note that if your learner is a very advanced writer looking for an in-depth mentorship and study in advanced topics like novel writing or more intensivee one-on-one study, I offer a different class for that entitled, "Writing Mentorship with Harper Collins Author Brianna Shrum."
