Writing Camp: Writing Response Paragraphs

Many standardized tests and applications have a specific form expected from students when answering a question in a paragraph. Students will learn how to write such a paragraph that completely answers the question.  Example paragraphs will be shown for students to analyze the five basic parts of the paragraph. (restating the questions, answering the questions, explaining the answer, citing the source, and summarizing) The teacher will then write paragraphs live in front of the students providing verbally the thought process for each part of the paragraph.  Students will then be expected to write their own paragraphs based on questions from assigned readings.  This is a skill that takes time and practice.  The three class sessions will be used to build familiarity by repetition with the process. 

Class one: Instruction of the 5 parts of a paragraph, reading example paragraphs and analyzing the 5 parts and watching the teacher write
Class two: Helping the teacher write paragraphs and students will start writing their own paragraphs.
Class three: students will be expected to demonstrate their ability to write a fully developed paragraph during the class
