Writing a college admission essay can be challenging. Some students even become paralyzed by the prospect, procrastinating endlessly, to avoid the task. This course will help you navigate the college admission essay process - from choosing a topic, to brainstorming, to drafting, to editing, to polishing. Each course is built around your individual needs. Are you stuck on what to write about? Do you lack confidence in your writing ability? Are you struggling to organize your ideas into a coherent essay? Is the length requirement giving you issues? That's what I'm here for. A typical course structure and progression is as follows: Session 1: Student describes needs; student and teacher establish goals for the course. This first session will most often involve discussing what college admission offices are looking for in an essay, brainstorming about topics, and creation of a working outline and writing plan. Session 2: In the time between the first and second sessions, student will submit a draft of assigned work (an introductory paragraph, a list of ideas, first-draft paragraphs, etc.). We will discuss feedback and suggestions I have provided. We will work on defining and limiting the scope of your essay, as well as maintaining focus and optimizing organization. Session 3: In the time between the second and third sessions, student will submit a draft of assigned work and instructor will provide feedback and suggestions. In this final session, we will work on: - adhering to scope and length constraints - organizing ideas effectively - improving transitions and overall structure - reconsidering and improving word choice and syntax - making final adjustments If you have any questions about the course or the process, please contact me. Please note that the course structure and content of three 85-minute weekly sessions can be tailored to your specific needs.
