Class Experience

Students will improve their writing style through the use of adverbs, clauses, verbs, and adjectives, while outlining and writing 3 paragraph story retellings and one paragraph summaries related related to a community theme.
I am an IEW Registered Instructor and have taught several IEW-related courses over the past 10 years in person and online through Outschool. I enjoy sharing in the enthusiasm of writing using the IEW method.
Homework is required and will be assigned weekly from the required textbook. Students will have a chance to write, illustrate, and participate in at-home activities that reinforce the skills and community concepts learned in class. Additionally, suggested read-alouds will be provided for families who wish to reinforce the theme of community outside of class time.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
No grades or tests will be provided. Students do have the option of turning a picture of their homework assignment into the Teacher Tab each week for feedback.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Depending on your child, students may need parental help each week with their homework assignments. At times they may need a listening ear as they retell their outline to you in their own words before turning their outline into their paragraph(s).
Due to copyright, students will need to purchase their own copy of the book "People and Places in Our Community". This book is approximately $29 and is the resource they will be using for class and homework assignments. The book can be found many places online, in addition to the IEW web site linked below. Please be sure to also take a look at the sample provided on the link and let me know if you have any questions.
