Writing About Fun and Fascinating Things Using Thematic IEW Curriculum (Part 2)

This is the second class of a 2-part course on writing using the All Things Fun and Fascinating curriculum from IEW.   By taking both the Part 1 and Part 2 classes, students will cover most of the lessons in the book.

Continue to build writing skills as you are introduced to even more types of writing in this Part 2 course!  Learn how to summarize articles, compose a report, write stories from pictures, and create a 3 paragraph research report.  End the course by experimenting with creative writing.  Because this curriculum is sequential and builds upon a structure, we will cover units 4-7 in this course.

Each week during class, students will interact with the teacher and other students to practice building on writing skills through modeling in the required book, discussion, and/or short games.  The games may use the chatbox, on-screen annotation, and verbal exercises.  All activities will reinforce the concepts of both writing style and writing structure.

Throughout these lessons, we will be playing with words to "dress-up" our writing, using descriptive adjectives, strong verbs, adverbs, sentence openers, figurative language, vocabulary, and more to add interest.

Vocabulary and literature suggestions will be given so students can use these to connect to their writing.
