Welcome! And thank you for clicking on this writing course! WHAT IS THIS COURSE? Good Question! This is a writing course that was specially designed for young writers (1st and 2nd Grade). The course is set to focus on learning how to structure and write a self narrative “essay” (We plan to follow the “essay” structure of intro, detail, detail, detail, conclusion… But instead of 5 paragraphs it is only 5 sentences). ✅ HOW WILL THIS BE TAUGHT? Writing stories/narratives can be a difficult task for many students and so we will be breaking the course into 4 main lessons! In these lessons the students may… HEAR a story CREATE a graphic organizer Learn to DRAW the steps of the story Mark important PUNCTUATIONS Use the graphic organizer to help them WRITE the story Learn to REVISE and EDIT a sentence. REVISE and EDIT the story 👨🏫 In this course we use lots of hand motions 👋, chants 📢and repetition 🔄 to keep students engaged and allow the important information to “stick”. 🎨 We also use a method of ✍️“Draw to Write” 📝to further help the children remember the steps of writing while also learning a very useful skill of planning! 🚨AN IMPORTANT NOTE 🚨 Students will be writing the same story so that we can all stay focused on learning the structure of a narrative. (Students may choose different adjectives and enhanced words when we begin revising). IS THIS CLASS RIGHT FOR MY STUDENT? This class was made for students who: Already know the alphabet Can (somewhat) write the letters Have written simple sentences before Enjoy working with others WHAT CAN YOUR CHILD ACHIEVE? 🤔 Develop Strong Critical Thinking Skills. 📘 Improve Reading and Writing Abilities. 📝 Increase Overall Writing Confidence. 📚 Thank you all so much! And Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns! 👋

over 2 WeeksLesson 1:
The 3 Step Process
We may start the lesson by hearing a story from the teacher and learning how to break the story into the three step process. "The beginning" "The action, action, action" and "The end".
Students may receive a Graphic Organizer as we work on mapping out the story so that they can be ready to write in the next lesson.
25 mins online live lesson
Lesson 2:
Writing the Story
Now that the Students should be finished with their graphic organizers, they should be using them to help guide the students as they write out the story by using the drawings, punctuations and transition words we put into the organizer.
25 mins online live lesson
Lesson 3:
What is Revising and Editing?
With the initial story written, students may now learn about how to revise a sentence by checking for punctuation, spelling and how to enhance the story by adding adjectives and "vivid verbs". We may work as a class to do this and allow the student to mark up their writings for revisions and edits.
25 mins online live lesson
Lesson 4:
Writing the Revised version
Since we have finished marking up our first "bland" stories, the students can now begin writing on a new piece of paper the edited version of the story.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from University of North Florida
I have been working with students now for over 7 years and for about 2 of those years I specialized in teaching younger students from the ages of 4-7. I have since then been primarily teaching English Language Arts and creating reading assessments and stories for both struggling and advanced readers (ages 5-14). I have written and worked on over 90 short stories, as well as 2 different chapter books. I am hoping to help use the skills and techniques I have learned over the years to help make writing a simple and enjoyable process for students!
