What will be taught? This class will focus on teaching students how to create standout applications for grants, awards, or scholarships. Students will learn key strategies for showcasing their achievements, experiences, and unique qualities to align with the goals of the application reviewers. What topics will you cover? - Understanding the application process and identifying key components (e.g., essays, resumes, and recommendation letters). - Decoding application prompts and tailoring responses effectively. - Highlighting strengths and accomplishments without exaggeration. - Writing clear, concise, and compelling personal statements. - Common pitfalls to avoid in applications. - Tips for proofreading and submitting polished applications. How is your class structured? This 30-minute session will be broken into three parts: Introduction (5 minutes): Brief overview of the student's goals for their specific application. Discussion of the student’s strengths and how they relate to the application. Focused Work Session (20 minutes): Hands-on analysis of the specific application requirements. Crafting or refining one key section, such as an essay, resume, or short-answer response. Live feedback and suggestions for improvement. Wrap-Up and Q&A (5 minutes): Recap of key takeaways. Actionable next steps for completing the application. How will you teach? I will use an interactive teaching style tailored to the student's individual needs and goals.
