Writing 101

In this flex formatted class, learners will learn how to focus their thought and writings into a great finished product. We will discuss the importance of creating an outline and answering the questions of Who, What, When, Where, and Why.  We will learn the importance of applying reading comprehension skills when writing, to allow our audience to truly follow our storyline.  There will be examples of reading questions after a passage to assist in comprehending our passages.  Mrs. V will provide detailed feedback to each student and provide notes and suggestions.

Below is a breakdown of what we will cover over the course of the class:

Week 4: Share Finished Projects

Mrs. V will post worksheets each week. Each week will also include a link to a video to extend the learning and will have a related classroom discussion question.  Each week learners will share any idea that they were most interested in and why using the classroom chat feature guided by Mrs. V.  Each learner will have the opportunity to share their ideas or writings for that week and share with the class.  Students are encouraged to check in with the teacher weekly in the OutSchool classroom/private learner's messaging, which will allow for more engagement between the teacher and learner.  Students will post their samples in the classroom and each classmate will interact with each other and comment on the sample that was uploaded.

At the end of each week, learners will take an interactive quiz about facts that we learned about reading comprehension for that week.  It will be interactive and fun way to share our knowledge with each other.  Also, each learner will upload a video each week about their favorite fact of that week and anything they may like to present.  Classmates will watch the videos and respond accordingly.

Students will need the printouts uploaded by the teacher in the classroom. There will be ample time provided in the classroom chat to inform parents and learners what will be required for the following week.

This is an inclusive class in which students of all abilities are welcome. If a student is unable to communicate verbally they are welcome to use the chat. If your student has any other needs that require accommodations please let me know and we will work develop a way for your learner to participate in a way that they are able.
