Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
Beginner Level
This class will develop learners' narrative writing skills and follows a Writer’s Workshop approach. This class meets 4 days(Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday). Each class will start with a Mini Lesson and will be followed by time for independent writing with teacher support.
Monday-Introduction to Narrative Writing. What is a narrative? Students will brainstorm ideas for their own narratives and pick one topic. They will draw five pictures to show the beginning, middle and ending of their narrative. They will write a title.
Tuesday-Review of proper writing conventions(uppercase at the beginning of the sentence, end punctuation, proper spacing). Learners will work on blending for proper spelling and the spelling of sight words during this time with teacher support. Learners will be encouraged to write two sentences. *I will monitor for individual differences in both struggling and advanced learners that may require adjustments.
Wednesday-Learners will be encouraged to choose where to add more detail(adjectives, compound sentences, etc.) in the sentences that they wrote on Tuesday. They will be encouraged to write two more sentences with teacher support if required. *Individual student accommodations will be made if required.
Thursday-Students will write a "feeling sentence" as their closing. They will self-edit for proper writing conventions using a checklist that will be provided by the teacher. They will share their story aloud with the teacher and other learners. Learners will be encouraged to provide peer feedback.
I will model all activities for the learners in a fun and engaging way. Students will be encouraged to work independently, but will have teacher support when required. Learners are asked to keep their cameras on during the whole class. I have many years of experience teaching both gifted and reluctant writers and will be able to support, guide and encourage the specific needs of your leaner.
