US Grade 5 - 8
Scary sentences only! Are you ready to write your way through ghoulish games, teeth-chattering challenges, and silly skull fun?! 🪦 CHALLENGE #1: Spooky Scenes We'll kick things off with a rapid-fire observation game! With a view of a haunted graveyard, how many spooky details can you describe in one minute? 💀 CHALLENGE #2: Whose Skull? We'll take a look at some real animal skulls to inspire creative characters from our imagination! 🔮 CHALLENGE #3: Name the Nightmare Let's world build a bit - we'll start with a spooky snapshot to imagine up all sorts of scary stories! 🦇 CHALLENGE #4: 2 Sentence Horror Stories No scary story is complete without a TWIST! We'll challenge ourselves to create twisty turny tales in only two sentences. Imaginative visual prompts and engaging writing challenges eliminate writer's block and strengthen creative writing skills in this spooky, one time class! Students will be provided with quick, engaging writing games based on vivid and inspiring images to get past the anxiety of "being creative." We will then discuss said image against a literary focus to keep our writing grounded. After initial drafts, students will have the option of revising alone or with peer feedback. All sharing of student writing is entirely optional. (Grammar and mechanics will not be addressed in this class.) The purpose of these workshops is to alleviate any stress from the act of writing. With prompts and guidance, students are able to strengthen their writing skills stress free. And if we have a little fun along the way? Fabulous.
