Writing Workshop for Writers Who "Think" They Don't Like to Write

In this class reluctant writers will be motivated to respond to visual, musical, verbal and written prompts that spark the imagination. ADHD students will enjoy this interactive creative writing class.

The focus of this workshop will be to harness the creativity of young writers to help them organize their thoughts. During the class, students will listen to the stories of their classmates and answer simple questions based on the work of their peers. Turn-taking and listening will be secondary skills students will develop in the class. Reluctant and impulsive writers will often rush through their writing, then make mistakes in grammar, punctuation and spelling errors; thus, grammar and punctuation will be reviewed weekly.
Students will learn how to:

•	Keep ideas in their minds long enough to remember what they want to write
•	Maintain focus on the "train of thought" so the flow of the writing does not veer off course
•	Keep in mind the big picture of what they want to communicate, while manipulating the ideas, details, and wording
•	Take the time to check over the details, edit assignments, and make corrections of their assignments.

The class format will be as following:
•	Selection of a common grammar rule, part of speech or spelling word and fun game to reinforce the word/ rule
•	Review of the writing process using a template and/or instructor-made checklist
•	Weekly timed verbal, visual, musical or writing prompt.
•	Sharing of stories.
•	Correction of stories and review of the rules

Format and schedule:
Weeks will include creative musical, visual and verbal prompts.
