Description
Class Experience
Students will be able to identify story structure and generate their own characters, relationships, settings, conflicts and resolutions. They will collaborate on ideas which inspires confidence and teamwork. And most importantly, if any student thinks "they can't write," these simple tools will prove they can and will.
Joy Mamey is an acclaimed comedy writer, specializing in sketch comedy and improvisation. Located in Los Angeles, Joy is one of the most upbeat teachers with a strong sense of moxie, dedicated to inspiring students to become their most confident selves.
After week one, they will have the concept for their first short story or play. They should then write the story out in its entirety (2-3 pages max.) They will then be able to present the story (or a summary depending on time/comfort level of student.)
Lined paper/notebook and a writing utensil. Short story or script is encouraged to be typed, but not required for presentation/summary.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
No grades, no assessment - only praise and encouragement.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
