In this one-time course, students will learn idea generation techniques and story development strategies for overcoming writer's block.
Class experience
When a writer gets stuck it's important she is prepared with the equipment necessary for imagining her way out of the block. A blank white page is an invitation for creativity, not an empty void to be feared. In this one-time course, students will complete 3-5 exercises for generating and developing characters and plot. Each student will have the chance to share one of her favorite pieces with the class. Through the lens of "raising the stakes," students will peer edit the writing samples...
By the end of the lesson students will be able to: ♦ Generate 3-5 short creative, written works by applying brainstorming techniques. ♦ Develop a storyline through the lens of "raising the stakes." ♦ Give, receive, and apply constructive feedback using a positive, peer workshopping model.
Students should bring a notebook, pen or pencil, and 10 post-it notes to class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
