Writer's Cafe: Teens, Fiction, and the Creative Flow

In this ongoing class, creative writers will learn skills to improve their fiction, have the opportunity to share their work with like-minded teens, and discover how to feed their creative process.

Class experience

This class will encourage students to elevate their writing and flex their creative muscle through open discussion.
I love writing books! And I teach Creative Writing courses to kids and teens who have book ideas bubbling up inside them, too. As the author of four Young Adult novels, I've traveled all over the United States speaking to groups of students about reading and writing. I have a B.A. in English, and I've taught high school English as well as elementary school. Teaching kids to express their ideas through creative writing is an incredible process. Once they acquire the language and story construction tools to help them express their ideas, their creativity never ceases to blow me away.

My books (available on Amazon) are "Virtuosity," "The Space Between Us," "The Vow," and "Kiss Kill Vanish." They've been awarded a Florida Book Award Silver Medal, nominated for a Whitney Award and a Great Lakes Independent Booksellers Association Award, and chosen twice as Junior Library Guild Association Selections.

When I'm not writing, I'm reading, and when I'm not reading, I'm baking bread. Yes, bread. If there is something more divine than warm, buttered, yeasty, fresh-from-the-oven bread, I don't know what it is. I also knit like crazy and enjoy embarrassing my teenagers every chance I get.
