Students will need a piano or keyboard and 1 year experience playing the piano or keyboard. We will start out week one by playing simple patterns with both hands, high and low, ascending and descending, and improvising. Week 2 we will choose a style and begin writing down ideas for melodic and harmonic patterns. Week 3 we will be deciding on a mood, and adding dynamics and articulation to achieve the style and mood. Week 4 app students should have at least 16 measures of their own original...
Concepts taught will include dynamics, articulation, theme and variation, tempo. Short hand notation will be taught and used for rough ideas, then students can use staff paper to notate or download a free version of MuseScore to be able to print their music.
Homework will be 10 minutes (or more on a good day) per day writing ideas
