Write Your Heart Out: A Creative Writing Course
In this class, students get the opportunity to dabble in and invest themselves in a variety of writings and writing strategies with the overall goal to improve their day-to-day writing by making it fun and interesting for them.

1-2 hours per week. Each written piece that we will work on is considered a project that students will edit, revise, and share with me. Students may require more time than is available during class to write. They can always message the teacher if they need additional support between courses.Progress Report
I will provide specific critique on students writing as the class progresses. Some of this will be verbal, but I will also provide written feedback for what the students work on a regular basis.Class Experience
US Grade 6 - 9
Beginner - Advanced Level
In this class, we will discuss the elements of the writing process and how to develop great writing. We will practice regularly by writing a variety of short stories that can be set up for extended works. We will cover topics such as Pre-Writing, Drafting, Proofreading&Revision, and the Publication Process. Students will write stories based on science-fiction, fantasy, and realistic fiction. This class starts slow by introducing students to various Pre-Writing techniques and then we plunge our way forward by hitting the ground running.
Learning Goals
Students will write narrative compositions in a variety of forms that engage and orient the reader by establishing a context and point of view and introducing a narrator and/or characters.
Students will write narrative compositions that organize an event sequence that unfolds naturally using a variety of transition words, phrases, and clauses to convey sequence andsignal shifts from one time frame to another.

Students will learn about Topic Choice in Pre-Writing.

Students will use various Pre-Writing strategies on pre-written works that they can use to practice the necessary skills.

Pre-Requisites
This class does not require any prerequisite classes to be taken, but if you're not sure about your student's interest in the course— I do offer a one time course to help them get started and get an idea of what this class will be like.
Supply List
Students will only need basic supplies such as a writing utensil, paper, or a word processor (Google Docs or Microsoft Word).
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
