US Grade 6 - 9
Beginner - Advanced Level
In this class, we will discuss the elements of the writing process and how to develop great writing. We will practice regularly by writing a variety of short stories that can be set up for extended works. We will cover topics such as Pre-Writing, Drafting, Proofreading&Revision, and the Publication Process. Students will write stories based on science-fiction, fantasy, and realistic fiction. This class starts slow by introducing students to various Pre-Writing techniques and then we plunge our way forward by hitting the ground running.
Learning Goals
Students will write narrative compositions in a variety of forms that engage and orient the reader by establishing a context and point of view and introducing a narrator and/or characters.
Students will write narrative compositions that organize an event sequence that unfolds naturally using a variety of transition words, phrases, and clauses to convey sequence andsignal shifts from one time frame to another.
