Write What You Like: Travel Writing - Exploring Creative and Non Fiction Writing
In this three day class learners will explore different ways to share about their travels by writing blog posts, a guidebook page, and a travel narrative. This class is for all learners, but provides additional support in the form of graphic organizers to help students plan out their writing. These strategies make this an excellent class to support reluctant writers and students with dyslexia and dysgraphia.
Class experience
This three session camp is designed to give all earners the opportunity to engage in purposeful and fun writing about their travels. It also provides addtional supports for reluctant writers and students with dysgraphia and other writing challenges with the support of graphic organizers and templates. Students will share their own travel experiences using different types of writing. They will learn strategies to brainstorm and organize their ideas to make writing easier.
Bridget Smith is a credentialed K-12 teacher, a published writer, and the mom to reluctant writers. She has extensive experience supporting kids with ADHD and other learning differences here on the Outschool platform.
Writing supports such as templates and graphic organizers will be shared in the Outschool classroom before class. Please download them if possible because they will provide support for your students writing. I will also share them in Google Doc form if possible. Blank paper, pens, and colored markers and pencils can be helpful to have on hand if your child wants to be creative.
This particular class encourages kids to share their travel experiences. Please remind students of trips they have taken so they have something to write about in class.
Examples will come from teacher generated sources and the Write What You Like Blog. https://youcanwritewhatyoulike.blogspot.com/
