50 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this class we will learn the basic formats for letter writing. We will specifically go over what is involved when writing a formal letter and how that differs from when we write informal letters. We will write our formal letters to Santa Claus asking him to bring us our greatest wishes. Our letters will be modeled after business letters designed to persuade. We will then be writing informal letters to Mrs. Claus, or optionally to our scout elves. Our informal letters will be modeled after friendly letters designed to keep in touch with friends and relatives. We will close our time together with a discussion of the differences in the two activities. Throughout this class we will operate under the premise that Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, and elves are all real. Any conversations or statements to the contrary will be deflected with a suggestion that everyone is entitled to decide for themselves whether or not they believe, but that either way writing letters can be a fun activity.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I'm an avid reader, and an author.
I was never so surprised in all my life as when my son told me he "just wasn't into reading" and that he thought "writing was the worst part of school." I had to think quick before he missed out on all the magic that I knew was waiting for him within the pages of books.
And so family book club was born. And then books and friends, and soon my house was overflowing with reluctant readers bouncing up and down and waiting desperately to tell Miss Tammi all their favorite bits from last week's reading.
I have spent ten years coaxing children into eager readers and confident writers. I love to watch those smiles light up when they realize there is a whole hidden world inside of books. In that world they never need to try to fit in, or please other people. In that world they are welcomed, they are wanted, and they are inspired.
