As a certified classroom teacher of 26 years, with many of those years in first grade, I am well-versed in teaching a variety of reading and writing strategies. I provide scaffolding geared toward each readers’ individual needs to help them be successful, which in turns increases their confidence as a reader and a writer.
Learners may draw a picture to go with their sentence after class and can share it with the teacher if they wish via Outschool email.
Learners will need paper and a pencil. The paper can be lined or unlined. I will include lined handwriting paper for parents to print out for their learner to use if preferred. Learners will also need approximately 10 small items, such as buttons, pennies, legos, etc, to use to plan their sentence prior to writing.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Learners will be give positive and constructive feedback in a kind and gentle manner during class.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Teacher will show video of a song about writing sentences. Written copyright permission has been granted by the musician/creator of the song and video to share the video in my Outschool class.
