Description

Class Experience

Students will learn how to construct various genres of Essay formats correctly.
I have had more than 20 years of classroom and tutorial experience teaching Writing Skills to various age groups. I have extensive coursework and professional development training in the academic area of Writing. I have taught writing skills and strategies with English Language Arts Courses and with the READ 180 program which contains a writing component.
Students will submit type-written essays following the class session and within 24 hours. The essay should be submitted on the classroom page where the student enters the lesson. PLEASE DO NOT type the draft as a GOOGLE DOC because I am unable to read those documents. I do not have a code in which to view them. Remember, all responses must be submitted using the OUTSCHOOL platform. If there are any questions about the submission, please feel free to contact me for clarity.
Each student will be required to have a writing notebook and writing utensil.
Essay drafts will be critiqued upon submission by providing a narrative response of strengths and suggestions of content.
30 minutes per week in class, and no time outside of class.
Civil Rights Movement, Cancel Culture, Genetically Engineered foods, War, Animal Research, and Self-Defense are some of the topics that will be optional for your child to write about. During the Cause & Effect or other writing sections, your child will select three topics to write about. Students will provide their own insight about these topics based on their prior knowledge. If the student has no prior knowledge of any of these topics, they are at liberty to do a search of their own and extract some ideas that they feel will support their draft. These topics will not be discussed, but only presented as possible ideas to write about. Discussion of one of these topics will only ensue if needed when I critique an individual's written response. During the Argumentative section, students may opt to support their arguments by seeking out information from the internet to support their evidence. Again, I will not be providing any links for students to access.
