Description

Class Experience

Students will learn elements of a story, as well as the stages of story writing, through the use of collaborative learning and art.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts (English) and a Bachelor of Education. I have worked as a full-time English / History teacher, as well as a literacy and ESL teacher over my 16+ years of teaching.
Homework will consist of students completing their versions of the artistic representations focused on each class as we progress through elements of story structure and the writing process.
Students will need access to the following
(*please note that if some supplies are unavailable to them, students can do all of the activities using simple pencil, paper and pencil crayons):

Blank paper (a booklet or duotang with blank paper inside works better to keep all parts together as a portfolio)
Coloured pencils or thin markers
Pencil & eraser
Paint / brush or oil pastels (optional for all of these, only if able)
Plasticine or bakeable clay (better because you can keep it after)
Shoe box
Scissors
Glue or tape
Any added elements students can find for final diorama project - these will be determined in final weeks when students decide which scene to create.
*Most of these can be found at regular dollar store or Walmart, all can be found at art store such as Michael's.
Assessment will be informal, consisting of having the students self-analyse on a regular basis, particularly in terms of asking themselves if they have put in their "personal best" with each assignment.
1 hour 50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
