Write On!: A Middle School Writing Boot Camp

Students will write, edit, and workshop different types of narrative, expository, and persuasive writing. Students will have a writing portfolio of 4 different pieces by the end of class and gain invaluable communication skills for life.

Homework
4+ hours per week. Homework will consist of writing and editing the current writing assignment. There will be nightly homework.

Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
Experience a comprehensive writing camp where students master every writing element from brainstorming to editing, campers delve into expository, persuasive, and narrative writing. Each week includes instruction, activities, and peer workshops. Homework focuses on crafting and refining assignments. 

Week 1: Expository and Persuasive Writing
During week 1, campers will learn about expository writing.  They will read and analyze examples of expository writing.  They will write, workshop, and edit their own Introduce Yourself! Essay and Personal Essay.

Week 2: Narrative Writing
During week 2, campers will learn about narrative writing.  They will read and analyze examples of narrative writing.  They will write, workshop, and edit their own Character Sketch and Autobiographical Incident.

At the end of the two weeks, students will have a writing portfolio of four different pieces (Character Sketch, Autobiographical Incident, Introduce Yourself!, and Personal Essay). Not only will students have a solid writing foundation for their future academic endeavors, they will have written communication skills that will benefit them for the rest of their lives.

Hello!  

I'm excited to teach English, Language Arts, and Social Studies through Outschool.  I've been teaching in one form or another for over twenty years. I have taught all ages from early childhood to adult in public, private, and higher education school settings.  I have a Master's degree in English and another in Montessori education.  I have certifications in Montessori education (6-9 and 12-18) and Teaching English as a Second Language. 

I believe in getting to know the student as a whole person, and meeting them where they are for the greatest learning success. I strive for an engaging and inspiring learning experience.

I live with my three children and our dog, Buddy.  I can't wait to meet you!
