Write Minded: 5 Day Narrative Writing Bootcamp

In this 1 week narrative writing course, students will write, developing characters, plot, conflict, setting, and point of view. Emphasis will also be placed on grammar and vocabulary.

Homework
Students are asked to complete their assignment if they do not finish before class is over. Students/parents are welcome and encouraged to send me the student's work through Outschool if they would like it proofread and/or would like some additional feedback on the student's writing.
Assessment
Students will be assessed informally through participation, questioning, and by completing a written response and drawing based on the book we read. (Note: We will review pre-writing strategies for young writers who do not yet write words.) Students are asked to complete their assignment if they do not finish before class is over. Students/parents are welcome and encouraged to send the student's work to me through Outschool if they would like it proofread and/or would like some additional feedback on the student's writing.

Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
The goal of this class, Write Minded: 5 Day Narrative Writing Camp, is to develop narrative writing skills, including character, setting, plot, conflict, and point of view.  Mentor (model) texts will include short stories, comics, and plays.

During the 45 minute class:
• Students will be welcomed to class.  We will quickly review the class rules and our learning goals.  
• 5 minutes-- grammar mini lesson
• 5-minute mini lesson on a writing skill.  Emphasis will be placed on building the literary vocabulary.
• Students will spend 25-30 minutes writing with teacher support.  
• 5 minutes--Students will then spend the end of class sharing their writing.
• As a class, we will review the material covered in the mini lesson and I will answer any questions prior to dismissing the class.  

(NOTE:  Children learn to write by writing!  It is so important that they practice writing techniques and apply it to their own stories. 
 If you feel your child would benefit from participating in the class again, I would love to have him/her join me in additional sections of the class!)
Learning Goals
The goal of this class is develop writers in the areas of persuasive, narrative, expository, and descriptive essays.  Students will learn to write effective open-ended questions based on a reading passage.  We will focus on:

-speaking
-fluency
