Description

Class Experience

Each lesson students will:
♦ Study the life and works of a spotlight author.
♦ Perform a close reading and examine a highlighted element (style, dialogue, characterization, personification, hyperbole, etc.) used by the featured author.
♦ Draft, craft, and (optionally) share a piece of original work based upon a writing prompt inspired by the spotlight author.
♦ Give, receive, and apply constructive feedback using a positive, peer workshopping model.
I have a Bachelor's of Arts degree in English Writing with a Certificate in Children's Literature. Additionally, I have been published in several literary journals and online publications.
There is no homework; however, students are encouraged to continue developing pieces began in class. Students can apply writing strategies learned in the class to shape future writings.
Course worksheets (available in class announcements), and/or a notebook, and a writing utensil.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
An informal, formative assessment via writing samples and discussion.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Biographies, newspaper articles, magazine interviews, documentaries, literature samples, book excerpts, and more.
