Prerequisite: Either my Write it! Part 1 and Write it! Part 2 classes, OR a strong comfort with writing long-form articles and stories. These assignments will begin with 5 paragraphs and work toward 5-10 pages per assignment. Please make sure that your writer is prepared for the workload. Students will continue to grow in their writing comprehension by exploring Essayists and the types of essays that are commonly used.
All students will keep a personal journal. Students will work on various lengthed projects every week. Homework will take approximately 1/2 to 2 hours per week, depending on the project. All projects will be uploaded either to the Outschool Classroom or to me personally.
With this age group, I usually prefer that they handwrite, however, because of the volume and type of assignments, I think it would be best if your student uses a word processor such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs as it will make it easier for me to assess and edit digitally. If that is not possible, please let me know, and we'll find what works best between us.
Course Completion Certificate available upon request.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Each class will be required to watch a movie prior to Week 14 for the Critical Essay assigned in class. Parents will be informed of each class's movie options in the syllabus of each class. I do try to make sure that each of my classes has different movie options to allow students in the same household to hold their own critical views.
