Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 6
There is no prerequisite requirement for this class.

I am a natural writer and I truly enjoy bringing new writers to the table to share in the conversation. I've also learned that sometimes the standard expository paragraph rules don't fire every kid and creativity and imagination can be a better place to start. It is from this base I created this 15-week writing course for the early writer, whatever grade they are in.

The Details
In this Writing Component of my 3Rs 3rd - 5th Grade class, we will meet for 15 weeks.

A full syllabus will be available on the first day of class for enrolled students. So that you are able to see the breadth of our semester I will include approximate dates and project plans for the semester. These particular themes are subject to change. Please, make sure to reference the Outschool Classroom Page for final assignments.

Your student will keep a journal of 3 sentences per day for at least 3 days per week and work on one writing project per week. All projects are due to be finished at the start of the following week EXCEPT week 15, where we will complete our project within the Outschool Classroom Page. Homework will take approximately 1/2 to 2 hours per week, depending on the project. All projects will be uploaded either to the Outschool Classroom or to me personally by the day before class at midnight. If it is sent to me privately, please reference 3-5 Write it! S1. Students may handwrite, type and save as a .doc or .pdf file, or link to a google doc to turn in homework.

Class dates below are subject to change in different sections, please see dates in class registration and class syllabus found in the first post of the Classroom after enrollment.

Other Details

Supply List
Your student is not required to type their assignments and at this age, I wouldn't even recommend it. However, please help them to take a picture of any handwritten assignments and upload them either to the classroom or to me privately. If it is sent to me privately, please reference 3-5 Write it!

Your student will need a notebook for their journal (or loose-leaf paper and a place to keep it for themselves), and a pen, pencils, crayons or markers, and paper for the various projects. Nothing super special, just supplies that they like to use. Yes, they may write with a pen if they want to.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have taught for over 30 years so far. I started as a corporate trainer training, at the time, high-end IT classes. I went on to homeschool my children through high school, an endeavor that took 16 years. During those years I ran several Co-op classes for junior high and high school Language Arts, Public Speaking, and Drama. I also created Scene and Heard Performing Arts, a live homeschool Drama Club for ages 5-18. I am very familiar with upper elementary, middle school, high school, and adult learning.
