This ongoing writing class is ideal for those who love inventing stories and want to improve their fluency and complexity in writing. Each week we have a new theme to write about. The class provides consistent practice for your child to explore their imagination and find ways to develop their ideas. Along the way they will become more confident in English language and sharing their work. Each week your child will write and illustrate a new story using a variety of vocabulary and sentence structures. This is not a regular English class - we use pictures to stimulate thinking and develop ideas in class. Everyone works at their own level and so one child might draw and label pictures like a graphic novel, while another learner will write long paragraphs and use more complex language. In addition to writing, this class is a friendly place for everyone to join in the conversation and to present their ideas in a supportive atmosphere. Note: the focus of this class is on thinking and enjoying the process of generating ideas - not on grammar or spelling! Class Structure: I present a different topic each week through stimulating images and by suggesting ideas. The topic activates your child's imagination and encourages them to express their ideas through images and words. Everyone starts to develop their story and I will provide vocabulary, connectives, and other literature techniques to enhance their writing on the board. Each child works at their own level and produces their own writing and drawing. Throughout the lesson I give feedback, help with spellings and engage students in conversations about their work. We practice our feedback skills and it is optional to read out what was written. At the end of the class we will have a new story written and illustrated. Some of our weekly topics are*: Week 1 Lost in a snow storm Week 2 A bird brings an unexpected gift Week 3 A day at a space station Week 4 Visit to an unusual farm Week 5 Discovery of an underground city **There are 38 unique stories we write! Every 6-7 months we cycle back to the beginning. In September and March we usually start at topic 1. Why is this class effective for improving English skills? A friendly and relaxed atmosphere encourages natural participation and opportunities to practice and improve existing writing skills - without the feeling of being in an English lesson. That makes this class suitable for native English speakers who are reluctant writers but who love inventing stories - as well as those who want a scheduled time to put their imaginative ideas down on paper. Every student can submit completed stories to me for feedback and corrections. I have witnessed some wonderful writing produced and suggest you get a folder so you can bind the stories into a little book in the future! Class policies: This is an ongoing class and you are welcome to pop in for a single class or to stay for months! Remember you need to cancel your subscription on the Sunday BEFORE you wish to end class (or simply right after the last class you wish to attend). There are no refunds AFTER you miss a class. Please contact Outschool support if you have any scheduling issues.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a fully qualified teacher and work with school children in the English education system. I have been teaching languages for many years, including English, German and French. I understand the challenges young learners face when trying to express ideas in a second language and I have found that drawing and writing short stories are excellent techniques that help children make fast progress and gain confidence in writing and speaking. I am experienced working with bilingual children and my creative classes have been highly praised by my school. I am also an English teacher for children in Hong Kong and have hundreds of five-star reviews by happy parents who saw their children's English skills improve.
