Students will create a unique book report by breaking down the writing into small, easily worked on "bites." This sandwich shaped book report contains seven different writing elements. When completed, students have covered book report topics such as: Plot Character Setting Conflict Solution Personal Summary/Review Week One* class structure: ‣ Introduction of our Sandwich book report project. ‣ Discussion on setting, character, and problem. ‣ Brainstorming and in class writing session with extended Instructor support. ‣ We will write the: Bread - Title and Name Tomato - Setting Onion - Characters Lettuce - Problem Week Two class structure: ‣Discussion on story climax/conflict, solution, conclusion and opinion. ‣ In class guided writing session with extended Instructor support. ‣ We will write the: Cheese - Story Climax/Conflict Meat - Solution and Conclusion Bread - My Favorite Part ‣ Construction and presentation of Sandwich Book Reports (if time permits) *This book report project contains 7 templates for the different layers of this sandwich, and the layers are stapled together to form a sandwich book. Each layer of this sandwich book report is approximately 7 inches in height and 7 inches in width. Book selection should take place prior to class starting. Students should choose a book they are very familiar with and have recently read. All effort is made to go through the entire writing process, however if your student is unable to complete the assignment during our class time, please let me know via email. We can make arrangements for your student to send me their final writing through the Outschool portal. Students are highly encouraged to submit their book reports for review. This allows for one-on-one instructor feed back to the student. Prior knowledge of book report writing is helpful, but not necessary, as these are skills we will be working on within our sessions. Class participation is highly encouraged, but not required, passive (audio) learners are welcome.
