Class Experience

Would you rather be able to breathe underwater or fly? Would you rather have an elephant-sized cat or a cat-sized elephant? Would you rather have the chance to design a new toy or create a new TV show? I have found that children of all ages absolutely adore playing “Would You Rather?”. It’s engaging, sometimes quite hilarious, and promotes critical thinking as they explain and even try to persuade others to agree with their position.

I will begin class by presenting a question. Each child will have a chance to answer as I guide them through the warm-up and stretching. Safety first! Next, I will ask an exercise question. For example, would you rather do 10 squats or 10 pushups? I will model each exercise. Children will complete their exercise of choice or sometimes we will mix it up and take a vote. We will use bodyweight and our “dumbbells” (2 water bottles will work just fine!- or optional light dumbbells) for many exercises. The exercises will be fresh and fun each class! All exercises can be modified to ensure each child is feeling successful and strong! No prior experience needed. Class will continue with the children asking their classmates questions. I will continue to include exercise-based “would you rather” questions throughout class along with WYR brain break videos to add to our exercise fun. Finally, class will finish with a cool down stretch and conversation. There will also be a variety of different online games thrown in the mix to keep each class feeling exciting and new!

You can expect your child to receive lots of encouragement and praise throughout our discussion and workout. Both my teaching and coaching style center around giving each child a lot of individual attention. They will leave feeling excited about fitness, and with new friends they look forward to seeing every week!

Please note, this class is not as active or exercise focused as many of my other workout clubs. Although there are certainly social aspects in all of my classes, this class will be equally split on activity and chat. I would consider this to be primarily a social club with exercise and movement infused.
Learning Goals
My goal for your little is to build up their confidence in their physical, mental, and social skills! I want to encourage a love for physical exercise and health by pouring my own love and passion into them! I seek to do all of this by providing an engaging and upbeat class that your child will look forward to every week!

Ongoing group classes are great practice for developing social skills and building friendships with familiar faces. I never mute learners (except in cases of distracting background noise, etc).

Improvement in the areas of strength, balance, and agility.
Improvement in the skill areas of critical thinking, effective communication, and confident speaking.

They will also be working towards achieving the daily physical activity recommendations of both the CDC and American Heart Association. According to the CDC, it is recommended that children and adolescents ages (6-17 years) should do 60 minutes or more of moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity each day, including daily aerobic – and activities that strengthen bones (like running or jumping) – 3 days each week, and that build muscles (like climbing or doing push-ups) – 3 days each week."

According to the American Heart Association:
Active kids are more likely to have:
-a healthy weight
-stronger, healthier bones and muscles
-better heart and brain health
-improved brain function, including memory, attention and problem-solving
-better school attendance and academic performance, especially in math, reading and writing
-lower long-term risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and some kinds of cancer
-less stress and fewer symptoms of anxiety and depression
-less inappropriate and distracting classroom behavior
-improved mental health and psychological well-being, including confidence and self-esteem
