Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
During this class, students will have the opportunity to practice various skills, including opinion and persuasive writing, as well as how to contribute to a discussion thoughtfully. Each week, students will be presented with 2 would you rather statements. They will then need to individually decide what opinion they agree with, and write a well-thought-out paragraph to persuade other students as to why their opinion is the choice to go with. All prompts are light-hearted and meant to spark a fun discussion between students.
The class will run as follows:
10 minutes -- Miss Kaylee introduces the two would you rather statements and reviews the expectations of how to write a short persuasive writing piece.
20 Minutes -- Students will have independent writing time to construct their persuasive piece. During this time, they can also consult with Miss Kaylee for writing support, if they choose to do so.
15 Minutes -- Students will be given the opportunity to share their opinions (persuasive writing) with the class, and explain their reasons for why their opinion is the one that they support.

The ongoing nature of the class means that there will be two brand-new topics to choose from each week! So, students can drop in/out of the class on weeks that they feel interested in.

Disclaimer: No matter the start date of the first class, the schedule order will be as follows.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Miss Kaylee. I teach classes mostly within ELA (reading, writing, phonics, grammar, etc). I have had extensive experience working with children. I recently graduated college with a bachelor's degree in educational studies and special education. While in college, I had the opportunity to work in many K-5 classrooms, working with children with very different learning styles and abilities. I have spent the last two years as a remote ELA and basic math tutor, so I have become very comfortable navigating the online teaching world. Prior to that, I spent 4 years as a camp counselor, working with young children as well. Working with children is my passion, and I love making a difference as an educator. One of my most important values as an educator is to meet every learner where they are, tailoring instruction to specific needs so that every student can be successful. I also find it very important to make instruction fun and engaging, as I find that students are more motivated to learn when they are having fun while doing it. When I am not working with children, I love to spend time with my family and friends, as well as my dog, Loopy, and my cat, Ruby. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions.
I look forward to meeting and working with you and your children!
