Class Experience

Hi families!
Does your learner need to strengthen their paragraph writing skills? Each day we will have a funny Would You Rather prompt for them to pick a side and defend that side in a 5 sentence opinion paragraph. We will utilize the I Do, We Do, You Do method to ensure mastery of each step of the process.

Class Lesson Plan

1 Greeting
2 Review Elements of a Good Paragraph
3 Would You Rather Prompt
4 Brainstorming Session
5 Organizing Thoughts
6 Paragraph Writing
7 Share Time

Class 1 Prompt:
Would you rather eat french fries or cookies?

Class 2 Prompt:
Would you rather have a dog or a cat?

Class 3 Prompt:
Would you rather be able to fly or be invisible?

Students will need paper and a pencil to go through the steps of the paragraph writing process. Together we will break it down from brainstorming, to sentences and finally a complete 5 sentence paragraph.

I have experience working with elementary school children in small group settings on math concepts, reading strategies and writing improvement. The I Do, We Do, You Do method provides scaffolding so children are better able to complete a task independently.

If your child is not quite ready for the 5 sentence paragraph, check out my other 'Would You Rather' listing for the 3 sentence paragraph.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Teaching is my happy place!

In 2012, I received an AA in Social/Behavioral Sciences. A few years later, I returned to school for my 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training Certificate and began teaching both yoga and fitness classes to children. I earned my Bachelors in Educational Studies, with an emphasis on Elementary Education in Summer 2023.

I have worked with elementary students in small group settings on reading strategies, writing improvement and math concepts since 2013. Currently I am a stay at home mom to my 13 month old daughter.

I believe in meeting your child where they are at and helping them find growth, foster a sense of curiosity and discover a love of learning.

In my writing classes, I make the task of writing a paragraph fun rather than daunting. In my yoga classes we combine engaging activities with movement. In my reading and book club classes we take our love of books and work on both our reading and reading comprehension skills.

Reading is my number one hobby. And I need more bookshelves. Always. My husband and I are recent transplants to the lovely state of Utah with our two dogs, Lola and Zoey.
