World War II Film & Documentary Club
Class experience
Students will be given one film or documentary to watch each week. Each film or documentary selection will be about World War II and will have a rating of PG-13/TV-14 or below. No content with an R-Rating will be presented to students in this course. The class will examine both feature films and documentary films. In our weekly meetings, the instructor will present on the historical context of each film, while walking students through any moments in the film that may have sacrificed...
Students will gain knowledge of World War II and appreciation for film throughout the course of this class.
The teacher works at a World War II museum, and has been educating both students and the general public about the horrors of World War II in a sensitive, but accurate way for several years. Any discussion of atrocities or other wartime tragedies will be rooted with historical context. Every attempt is made to keep conversations unbiased and fact driven for difficult topics.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Films assigned for this course are typically rated PG-13. Dunkirk has been rated PG-13. This rating was given by the MPAA for intense war experience and some language. Midway has been rated PG-13. This rating was given by the MPAA for sequences of war violence and related images, language and smoking. The Diary of Anne Frank has been rated PG for mild violence and brief insults. The Monuments Men has been rated PG-13. This rating was given by the MPAA for some images of war violence and historical smoking. If parents have any concern about the content in the films that are assigned for this class, they are encouraged to reach out to the teacher for guidance.
Many of the films we will watch are available on streaming services, but students are welcome to obtain them from any source that is most convenient for them.
