In this 5 week Live Class, we'll explore the mythology of 5 of the world's most fascinating civilizations. Each week will focus on a different culture and will also include a broader discussion on the interaction between mythology, religion, and popular culture: Week 1: Greek: featuring Percy Jackson, Disney's Hercules, and a discussion on the inventions of Ancient cultures that are still used today Week 2: Norse: including Marvel's Thor and Loki, and what makes a story a "classic" Week 3: Egyptian: with Indiana Jones and The Kane Chronicles, and why mythology and other stories change based on time and location Week 4: Japanese: Studio Ghibli's "Spirited Away", "My Neighbor Totoro", and other anime, plus how mythology teaches morals/lessons Week 5: Hinduism: since Hinduism is a religion that's still being practiced, how does it differ from Ancient Mythologies? I also offer this course as a Self-Paced Class: https://outschool.com/classes/mythology-in-popular-culture-greek-norse-japanese-and-egyptian-flex-class-btSI90jn and as a series of individual Live Classes, if your student prefers one of those methods of instruction: Greek: https://outschool.com/classes/greek-mythology-in-popular-culture-PG4MXUpN#usu529M6QA Norse: https://outschool.com/classes/norse-mythology-in-popular-culture-xvpDwLHn#usu529M6QA Egyptian: https://outschool.com/classes/egyptian-mythology-in-popular-culture-FTnkacm6#usu529M6QA Japanese: https://outschool.com/classes/japanese-mythology-in-anime-and-other-popular-culture-zEiBPVCk#usu529M6QA Hinduism: https://outschool.com/classes/intro-to-hinduism-mythology-culture-religion-ld3eh4J7 See you in class!
