This class is taught in English.
The class has several goals. The first is to provide students with basic factual knowledge and chronology of World War II. The second is to ensure that students are able to productively integrate this factual information to obtain a holistic understanding of the various military operations and the strategic and diplomatic decisions that determined the shape of the post-war world. Furthermore, the course is designed to develop critical and analytical thinking skills.
Dr. Brezina taught history of World War II or the Second World War at various university prep schools in Europe and the United States and as well as at several American colleges and universities.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
The study of the history of World War II deals generally with some sensitive topics in history such as war, ethnic cleansing, the Holocaust, and other conflicts. Dr. Brezina takes great care to present the content in an age-appropriate manner.
There are many sources that are used for teaching the history of World War II in this course. Dr. Brezina studied various primary and secondary sources (articles, books, dissertations, etc.) during his years as a teacher and professor of history that will allow him to interpret the Second World War history objectively and address the full range of a variety of peoples' histories and historical perspectives. For example, he will draw from these books: Hitler's Empire by Mark Mazower, Bloodlands by Timothy Snyder, To Hell and Back by Ian Kershaw, No Simple Victory by Norman Davies, War in the Western Pacific by Ian W. Toll, and The Third Reich at War by Richard Evans. (However, Dr. Brezina does not require students to purchase or use these books.)
I have taught history and social studies for over twenty-five years at all levels, including elementary school, middle school, high school, and college. I have a Ph.D. in history from Boston University, and spent ten years as a tenure-track...
