Welcome to World History – Part 1: Foundations of Civilization In this sixth-grade level course, students will begin their journey through world history by building a strong foundation in geography, early human development, and the ancient cultures of Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. We’ll start with a global overview—examining continents, oceans, and how geography influences the development of civilizations—then dive into the fascinating stories of how humans spread, settled, and shaped the world around them. Students will explore a wide range of historical topics using engaging source materials, learning to analyze, document, and reflect on the people and events that helped shape global history. Along the way, they’ll develop key skills in historical thinking, inquiry, and cultural understanding. 🌍 Topics Include: World geography: continents, oceans, and key landforms Theories of human origins and early human migrations Ancient African kingdoms and cultures Civilizations of the Middle East: Mesopotamia, Persia, and beyond Early Asian societies: India, China, and surrounding regions Religion, trade, innovation, and cultural exchange across early civilizations Historical figures, daily life, and legacies of the ancient world 🎥 Course Format: This class is taught through recorded video lectures and may include: Supplemental YouTube clips Readings and worksheets Creative, hands-on activities such as dioramas, recipes, mini-projects, and experiments Please see the syllabus below for a full layout of lessons included in the course. ********************************************************************************************* 👩🏫 Teacher Communication: While the lessons are self-paced, I (your teacher!) will be available for communication and support during the official 20-week course period. Parental Guidance
This class will cover early World History, which includes topics of war, slavery, and discrimination. All topics will be at an age appropriate level.
This class will utilize Youtube videos for sharing of lecture videos, as well as supplemental lessons. All Youtube videos are embedded into the Outschool platform.
