Class Experience
In this one-time class, I will introduce learners to some basic ideas of geography and how to represent them with maps. I will explain and describe topography, cultures, and biomes and why they matter. I will then show learners how to represent them, using Azgaar's Fantasy Map Generator. We will meet one time for 55 minutes, during which I will introduce the topics with a short slide show and then show learners how to access and use the map generator. I will take questions and troubleshoot as...
Students will learn some key concepts in geography and learn how to make a map.
I have a PhD in geography and teach for the University of Georgia in the Department of Geography. I have taught a version of this class for college students starting in 2017.
Learners will make at least one map of a world they create. Map making can be infinitely fun, but it should not take more than one hour to make a basic map.
A one-page handout will be provided.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Feedback on maps
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
