Words of Fear: A Horror Themed Ongoing Book Club
Class Experience
US Grade 3 - 6
Ready for a fright? In this class, learners will read sections of a book before class and then come to class ready to discuss them! We will use the framework of Reading Powers by Adrienne Gear to base our discussions on. Learners will enjoy discovering a range of new books and sharing their ideas with fellow horror lovers. All reading will need to be done outside of class. While all books will be of the horror genre, they will remain appropriate for learners. I am an elementary school...
- Students will grow in their understanding of reading comprehension strategies, particularly the reading powers (summarizing, connecting, questioning, predicting, visualizing, and inferring). Their reading skills will also improve with practice and with keeping up with the posted schedule before class.
I am an elementary school teacher who has extensive training and experience leading learners in book clubs where their love of reading is ignited.

Learners should have a proficient reading level to enjoy the books selected. In some cases, these books might be able to be found in a recorded version.
Learners will need a copy of the following books to begin with: - Night Books by J.A. White - Serefina and the Black Cloak by Amanda May Dundas - The House with a Clock in Its Walls by John Bellairs
Although these books are all spooky in nature, they are age appropriate in content.
We will be starting with reading 'Night Books,' 'Serefina and the Black Cloak,' and 'The House with a Clock in its Walls.' We will be using Reading Powers by Adrienne Gear as a framework.
