In Word Wizards: Mastering English, Reading & Writing, students will explore a variety of topics to boost their language skills, including reading comprehension, creative writing, vocabulary building, and grammar. Each class will focus on a specific skill, such as crafting strong sentences, identifying key details in texts, or expanding vocabulary using fun word games and exercises.

The class is structured to be interactive and engaging. Each session will begin with a short, guided lesson, followed by activities where students can apply what they've learned. We'll use a mix of games, discussions, short writing prompts, and hands-on activities to keep learners actively involved. I’ll also incorporate visual aids, slides, and video clips when appropriate to explain concepts and reinforce learning.

My teaching style is student-centered, focusing on creating a supportive, fun, and dynamic environment. Students will have plenty of opportunities to ask questions, share their ideas, and collaborate with peers. Expect a balance of individual work and group activities that allow for personalized feedback and one-on-one interactions when needed. This class is designed to keep learners engaged while helping them build confidence in their language skills!



                            Week 1 (January 9th & 11th)
Course Title: Introduction to Word Wizards & SIMS Framework
Tuesday (January 9th): Course Introduction & Getting to Know Each Other
  - Icebreakers and introductions  
  - Overview of course objectives, structure, and expectations  
  - Introduction to SIMS Framework (Sentence, Information, Meaning, Structure)  
  - Brief discussion of the importance of reading, writing, and decoding  
  - Class Q&A and setting personal goals for the course


Thursday (January 11th): Introduction to Basic Decoding Skills & Sentence Construction
  - Introduction to basic decoding strategies (phonics, sight words)  
  - Simple sentence construction practice  
  - Emphasis on sentence clarity and basic vocabulary  
  - Reading and decoding short words and phrases  
  - Group activity: Write and read aloud simple sentences for fluency



                                 Week 2 (January 16th & 18th)
Course Title: Expanding Vocabulary & Sentence Variety + Reading Comprehension
- Tuesday (January 16th): Enhancing vocabulary using context clues; expanding sentence structure with adjectives and adverbs  
- Thursday (January 18th): Focus on reading comprehension through context; applying new vocabulary in reading and writing  


                              Week 3 (January 23rd & 25th)  
Course Title: Organizing Ideas & Improving Fluency
- Tuesday (January 23rd): Introduction to paragraph structure: topic sentence, supporting details, and conclusion  
- Thursday (January 25th)3: Fluency practice with reading aloud; organizing ideas into clear paragraphs  


                             Week 4 (January 30th & February 1st)
  Course Title: Purposeful Writing + Advanced Decoding Skills
- Tuesday (January 30th): Writing with a clear purpose and structure; decoding advanced words with prefixes, suffixes, and root words  
- Thursday (February 1st): Using meaningful sentences in writing; applying decoding strategies for more complex words  



                                Week 5 (February 6th & 8th)
Course Title: Enhancing Writing Flow & Reading Comprehension Strategies
- Tuesday (February 6th): Writing with smooth transitions; analyzing sentence structure for improved flow  
- Thursday (February 8th): Advanced reading comprehension strategies; identifying cause and effect or sequence in texts  



                                  Week 6 (February 13th & 15th)
Course Title: Writing for Clarity and Coherence + Decoding Long Words
- Tuesday (February 13th): Refining writing for clarity and coherence; practicing advanced decoding strategies for multisyllabic words  
- Thursday (February 15th): Expanding on ideas for cohesive writing; applying advanced decoding strategies in reading  



                                 Week 7 (February 20th & 22nd)
Course Title: Integrating Sentence Structure with Meaning
- Tuesday (February 20th): Focus on the relationship between sentence structure and meaning in writing  
- Thursday (February 22nd): Writing exercises that ensure clear meaning through well-structured sentences  


                                    Week 8 (February 27th & 29th)
Course Title: Refining Paragraphs & Enhancing Reading Comprehension
- Tuesday (February 27th): Writing structured paragraphs that flow logically; analyzing texts for detail and main ideas  
- Thursday (February 29th): Reading passages to identify main ideas and supporting details; refining paragraph structure  

                               

                                 Week 9 (March 5th & 7th) 
Course Title: Writing Essays with Purpose & Using Complex Vocabulary
- Tuesday (March 5th): Writing short essays with clear purpose and organization; integrating complex vocabulary into writing  
- Thursday (March 7th): Analyzing texts with complex vocabulary and structures; decoding and incorporating new vocabulary into writing  



                             Week 10 (March 12th & 14th) 
Course Title: Crafting Effective Transitions & Improving Fluency**  
- Tuesday (March 12th): Practice writing with effective transitions to improve the flow of ideas in writing  
- Thursday (March 14th): Focus on reading fluency through timed reading passages and accurate decoding  



                                  Week 11 (March 19th & 21st)
Course Title: Combining SIMS Elements in Writing
- Tuesday (March 19th): Integrating all SIMS elements (Sentence, Information, Meaning, Structure) in writing exercises  
- Thursday (March 21st): Focus on crafting cohesive pieces using all SIMS strategies for sentence construction, information organization, and flow  


                                Week 12 (March 26th & 28th) 
Course Title: Reading Comprehension Review & Final Class Reflection
- Tuesday (March 26th): Review of key reading comprehension strategies; applying these to complex passages  
- Thursday (March 28th): Reflection on progress throughout the course; final discussions on the integration of SIMS elements in writing

Yes, Word Wizards: Mastering English, Reading & Writing is designed to support diverse learning needs, including ADHD, dyslexia, and ASD. As a special education teacher, I use strategies like clear instructions and visual aids.

I am a special education teacher with extensive experience working with middle school students in grades 6-8, currently teaching inclusion English and implementing SIMS (Strategic Instruction Model) writing strategies. I have a strong background in supporting diverse learners, including those with ADHD, dyslexia, and ASD, and I use differentiated approaches to meet each student's needs. I am also finishing my Master of Arts in Education, which has further enriched my teaching practices and deepened my understanding of effective literacy instruction. Over the years, I have successfully taught reading, writing, and comprehension skills, creating an inclusive environment where every student can thrive.
