Join our online adventure, Word Quest: Jungle Temple! In this class, students will embark on an adventure to uncover the secrets of a forgotten jungle temple. Along the way, they will unlock the mysteries of spelling words with silent letter endings and use their reading and spelling skills to solve puzzles. Through engaging, hands-on activities, students will master tricky ending spelling patterns such as -dge, -tch, and -le. Each lesson is based on the Orton-Gillingham approach, a proven, evidence-based method that is systematic, explicit, and multisensory. These techniques are designed to strengthen the skills of all learners, especially those with dyslexia. Your child will have fun while developing essential reading and spelling skills, making this adventure both educational and exciting! Learning Goals
Students will learn how to read and spell word endings with silent letters such as -dge, -tch, and -le.
Students will learn different sounds of the vowel Y at the end of words.

over 4 WeeksLesson 1:
/ch/ Spelled -tch
・Learn how to choose between -ch and -tch to represent the /ch/ sound.
・Discuss and use new vocabulary words.

/j/ Spelled -dge
・Learn how to choose between -ge and -dge to represent the /j/ sound.
・Analyze and practice irregularly spelled high frequency words in isolation and in sentences.

Lesson 3:
Closed Syllable Exceptions
・Review closed syllables.
・Introduce the word endings -ild -old -ind -olt -ost which are exceptions to the closed syllable pattern.

Sounds of Vowel Y /long i/
・Learn words where Y represents the long i sound.
・Analyze and practice irregularly spelled high frequency words in isolation and in sentences.

Students should be able to read the following word: stride, contest, publish and protect
Students should be able to spell the following words: throne, distant, and program.
If not, please consider "Word Quest: Secret Agent" course.
Supply List
Students will need a small whiteboard or notebook and fine tipped marker handy for our class. (a fine tipped Crayola or Flair marker works great) Please avoid pencils, as they can be difficult to read on camera.
