Class Experience
Let's solve some math word problems! We focus on a variety of problems, tailored to students' interests, set at a 5th grade level. Each class features a new set of word problems, which we will solve together as a class. When possible, I encourage the students to guide me through the steps as I write out the solutions on a virtual whiteboard, offering guidance when students are stuck, and offering alternative solutions. Students will learn how to solve word problems methodically and creatively. We solve problems based on simple 4-step approach: 1. Question: What question is the problem asking? 2. Information: What relevant information do we know? 3. Calculation: How do we calculate our answer? 4. Results: What is our solution statement? Does our answer make sense?
I have a Bachelor's of Science degree in Mathematics from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, and have spent the past 12 years teaching and tutoring math students of all ages.
Learners are encouraged to have pencils/paper in order to solve problems alongside the class.
