Let's solve some math word problems! We focus addition and subtraction of numbers up to 20, tailored to students' interests. Together learners and I will solve word problems. This is a great way to introduce students the basic concepts of addition and subtraction, and whole-part relationships of numbers. Students will learn how to solve addition and subtraction word problems methodically and creatively. We solve problems based on simple 4-step approach: 1. Question: What question is the problem asking? 2. Information: What relevant information do we know? 3. Calculation: How do we calculate our answer? 4. Solution: What is our solution statement? Does our answer make sense?
I have a Bachelor's of Science degree in Mathematics from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, and have spent the past 12 years teaching and tutoring math students of all ages.
Learners should have a pencil and paper to help them solve problems if needed.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
